Films for Singapore Airlines

We made the following two short films for Singapore Airlines. The films are of 7 minutes duration and are being shown in Singapore Airlines in flight to give a glimpse of the important places in the arriving point.

Annalakshmi, the restaurant with a difference.

Dakshina chitra, Madras Craft Foundation.

Annalakshmi, the restaurant with a difference.

There are restaurants galore all over the world and India is no exception. It is but natural that any visitor would like to know where he/she can get good meals. Some are willing to try the local flavour in meals. Singapore Airlines thought it fit to include Annalakshmi, a restaurant that has branches in many cities around the world - like Singapore, London, Kuala Lumpur etc,. we called it restaurant with a difference because here one is waited upon not by paid waiters but people who are willing to render some social service. The one who waits on you could be a manager or Managing Director in a multinational company or high placed officer of the Govt.

The film begins with the restaurant and at first one will not see any difference between this and another restaurant. Some who wait on the customers are also shown in luncheon meetings in five star hotels. It is then the commentary reveals that this high placed official also waits on customers at Annalakshmi. It is because the money that is earned by the restaurant is spent to help the poor around the world. The cooks are also housewives and from the higher strata of society.

The film also has photographs of some of the VIPs who have visited the restaurant. It includes Bill Clinton, the President of USA. He might not have visited India, but had been to the restaurant's branch in Singapore.

When this film was shown in Singapore Airlines flights to Madras, it is gathered that many of the tourists have made it a point to visit the restaurant.

Dakshina chitra, Madras Craft Foundation.

Tourists to India often find it difficult to visit all the important places in the country, due to its vastness and paucity of time. This problem is lessened to  some extent for the tourists who want to get an idea of what life was like in the four Southern state of India - Tamilnadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Now thanks to Madras Crafts Foundation when they visit Dakshinachitra, some 30Kms away from madras they can get a glimpse of the states at one place. It houses the houses, the materials they used in these states. No they are not exhibited as they normally do in a museum. Areas are demarked for the states and even the environment around the place is the exact replica of the states. They are designed by people from the particular states and one can even get food of the states.

In addition, the tourists who are interested in crafts can attend a short course on crafts conducted specially for the tourists. This film which we made again for Singapore Airlines was appreciated as in addition to suggesting a right place for the tourists to visit it gave an insight to what is in store for them.
