Teaching Mathematics – the new way - film  for DPEP, Directorate of Primary Education Programme,
through IGNOU, Delhi.- Indira Gandhi National Open University. Ramanathan made two films for the client. One was on subtraction and another on Place value. The films featured real life school teacher and students. . 

This is a training film for trainers. The film featured real life teachers  and students. We avoided the 'take it from me' attitude, instead preferred to have real interactions between the trainers and trainees for the film. This helped us in conveying the message very clearly.  When this film was shown on satellite TV for teachers from around the country and discussed through video conferencing, almost all of them felt that it tells them more in less time and is very effective, It also generated exchange of ideas, which was one of the additional purpose of the film.  

Though Ramanathan had been associated with the production of training film from his days in Film Institute days this is the first film he made for an open university and we are confident that we will be doing more of such films.

The other training films include the one made for training of mechanics in the maintenance of cars. This was done for an automobile accessories manufacturer, M/s National Auto Accessories Ltd., Goa. Ramanathan also scripted and directed a training film for M/s Wheels India of TVS group. This was for training of salesmen of the company's distributor in USA. 

Another training film was made for training of pump mechanics in a rural water management project of DANIDA – Danish International Development Agency of Govt. of Denmark, engaged in rural development projects in Tamilnadu.
