For details on individual series click on the name. This is not a comprehensive list of films, produced by HILIGHTERS . Not all films were produced by Hilighters. Only the five - Aao Hasen, Padausi ya kirayedar, En Magan, Thaai Thantha Parisu and Aasai were produced directly by Hilighters. But all the films were directed by Ramanathan. He has also written the story and script for many of them and have also photographed some of them. This is only to give an idea of the diverse range of subjects covered and the kind of clients, worked for. This is a pure comedy. The episodes are only of five minutes duration each. Normally at least five episodes will be included in one 30 Mts. show. It depended only on dialogue for comedy. A greedy land lady wants to throw her tenant out. But the tenant is adamant and refuses to budge. The lady tries all she can and every time she loses money and does not succeed in forcing the tenant vacate. At the end her son marries the daughter of the tenant. This hilarious comedy in four parts was first made in Hindi for Bombay DDK and later a Tamil version, with different cast was made for Madras DDK. Both the versions were roaring successes. The Hindi version featured veteran actor Poornam Viswanathan, while the Tamil version featured well known actor Delhi Ganesh. This is the first single episode made by HILIGHTERS for Madras DDK in April 1986. The film centers around an industrialist and his son. The latter wants to come up in life without help from anybody and so refuses to be part of his father's industry. But the father thinks that he has gone wayward. when he finds out what his son wanted to do and has opened a road side snack bar, he does not chide him, but proudly claims that he is the father of Snack bar Ramesh. The unexpected twist in the end what made the film gain wide acclaim from both the viewers and critics. The film had Charuhasan, winner of the national best actor award for the year 1985. This was made in 1987 and telecast from Madras DDK. Film on anti dowry was the requirement of DD and this film deals with the subject in a different fashion. Till the end there is no mention of dowry and it is simply a story of how a widowed mother expects her son to be independent in selecting the partner, as he is expected to be independent in his work also. It is only when she comes t know that her son has asked for got a scooter from his father in law, she says that as he has been sold to someone else she will have nothing to do with him and prepares to leave him. The son relents and agrees to return the scooter and apologises for his folly. The film got a raving review in the press. This short film telecast in 1988 is again based on a socialy relevant theme, but as is the custom with HILIGHTERS it is treated in a totally different manner. The film goes to explain that there is a large percentage of poor who would like to send their children to school, but are unable to dop for want of money for the basc needs like food. Whem a young lady takes upon herself to teach a girl who joins her as her servant. The girl's grandfather fells so grateful to her for educating his grand daugher. This goes to porve that most often the poor will opt for studies, if only their basic needs are met. This is the Tamil version of the Hindi film Padausi Ya Kirayedar. This was telecast from Madras DDK and had equally good response as the Hindi film. For details of the story line click here. Story While Deepavali is celebrated with enthusiasm by all, for a newly married couple the first Deepavali after marriage is much more than a festival. It is an occasion they will remember for long. For the film artistes despite their success and popularity a film released on Deepavali is something they will not forget for long. This episode telecast on Deepavali day was a compilation of song sequences from such Deepavali releases of some of the well known artistes like Rajnikant, Kushboo,and others. This had interviews from some of the artistes, notably Kushboo. the episode also had a poem written and recited by the successful and well known director R.V.Uthayakumar. Yaar Kutravali is about a woman who has been sentenced for some years for an alleged crime which many of us would have committed if we were in her place. She hit a man with a heavy metal bar when he tried to rape her. The man died and she was accused of a murder and luckily escaped with reduced sentence. She migrates to Chennai and was working as a maid with a family whose members have immense trust in her. One day one of the villagers come to meet the family and when he tells them that she is a murderer the lady of the house starts disbelieving her and finds fault with her. Soon the lady proves her honesty but walks out of the employment as she feels that she can no longer work in a family where the lady has lost faith on her. Who is the real culprit- is the question this short film poses. Is it the lady who was wrongly convicted for a crime which she commited unintentionally and out of dire necessity to save her honour or is it the people like the lady of the family who believes that one who is once accused is always a suspect. Unless we change our ourlook prison reforms will have no meaning and innocents caught by circumstances will suffer. This is a 60 Mts short film telecast on Vijay TV Pongal is the most widely celebrated festival in Tamilnadu and one of the days is earmarked for farmers. They take care of their cattle on this day . This day is also known as Mattu Pongal. This single episode teleast on DD from Chennai kendra centers around a man who buys a cow from the bonus he gets. The idea is to economise on his expenses in milk and milk products and hopes to make money selling them. This is a comedy and in a lighter vein depicts the problems he encounters and had never thought of earlier. There is no specific messageand it is a pure entertainment. Two leading comedy artistes of TV - Kathadi Ramamurthy and Sacchu are featured. This was received very well by the viewers.
This six part series in Hindi was first made for Alcoholic Ananymous and was later telecast on DDK, delhi. The series centers around a man who is forced by circumstances to take to drinking. and is almost ruined. The series highlights the methods that can be used by friends and relatives to help a person come out of the problem and stop drinking and be normal. The series was a run away success though it dealt a serious subject and was telecast among comedies the entire week. This is a family story revolving around a middle aged lady who dreamt of becoming a film start but failed in her attempts and decides to groom her daughter to be one. She forces her daughter to learn dancing and acting but the daughter is more interested in studies. The young girl meets a boy, who is from a rich family and who falls in love with her. The girl refuses to marry him as she feels that she has to somehow rise to the top to fulfill her mother's dream of a rich life. The mother feels that she must become a star not only to be rich but also to prove to her husband that though he ditched her she could make her daughter reach great heights. In short the lady wants to live through her daughter. In a twist of events the lady is offered a role as sister in a film and the film becomes a run away success and she is besieged with offers. Finally she agrees to her daughter's plan of doing a doctorate abroad and also insists that she must marry the boy who is in love. The girl willingly accepts the codition as the boy agrees to her pursuing her studies.
