Swiss Exports
For more the sixty years
major leather footwear manufacturers of the west have been
outsourcing some of their requirements from Sethu Exports the parent company of
Indo Swiss Exports. On the occasion of their platinum jubilee celebrations we
made two films for Indo Swiss Exports.
One was for presentation to
their western partners and another to aid the resource mobilisation through
public issue of shares.
Concept
T he film was aptly titled ‘How
the west was won’ to highlight the point that the company had gone westward
to win laurels and gain profits. So the film begins with shots from some
Hollywood western movies We
see a man going with others in a group and suddenly he moves away from the group
and heads westwards to win. This man symbolises the founder of the company who
chose to export all his production to the western world rather than find a
domestic market. This is the result of the man’s confidence in quality. These
points are brought out in the commentary that accompanies the visuals in the
beginning. The commentary starts only after a minute of the start of the film.
Till then it has only music.
From then on the film has
shots of the factory in Ranipet, near Madras for tanning of leather and the
factory at Madras for the manufacture of leather foot wears. . Visuals play an
important part in the film and the film has a fairly large share of computer
graphics. The effects used were with help of special effects generator –
Pinnacle, which was new to the Indian filmmakers in 1992. The film was edited in
non-linear edit suites – Avid.
Almost all the people who viewed the film in USA and
Europe had only praise for the film,
